This online course will increase understanding and offer practical advice to help deal with the hazards caused by silica dust in the workplace. The course starts by highlighting the industries and activities where silica dust is a health problem, and show how it can be measured and prevented. We’ll look at compliance and the responsibilities of both employers and workers according to the OSHA regulations. We’ll explain Assigned Protection Factors and the main respirators used to control exposure. You’ll learn the three methods of assessing exposure to silica along with information about laboratory credentials, and the actions, such as recordkeeping, that are needed when exposure results are returned. There will also be practical advice on keeping samples, lab reports, medical exam reports, and training documentation. We’ll show you how to set up a Silica Exposure Control Plan with regulated areas and signage. Finally, we have a series of important questions and answers about the practicalities of managing silica safety in the workplace.
